Swansea University announces fully funded EPSRC ICASE and TATA STEEL Ph.D. scholarships in the field of Materials Engineering in the UK. This iCASE Ph.D. scholarship seeks to develop lightweight, highly insulating, and low combustion materials for use in sandwich panels for building facade systems in the construction sector, in collaboration with Tata Steel Building Systems UK as well as using waste industrial by-products as raw materials to obtain recyclable products fully recycle at the end of its life. Advanced visualization and analysis tools will be used to obtain the necessary information on chemical, structural, thermal, and fire performance to support the project development process.
Benefits
- This scholarship covers the full cost of tuition fees and an annual stipend of £20,000 for four years.
- Additional research expenses will also be available.

Eligibility criteria
- Candidates must normally hold an undergraduate degree at 2.1 level (or Non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University) in Engineering or a similar relevant science discipline.
- English Language Requirements: If applicable – IELTS 6.5 overall (with at least 5.5 in each individual component) or Swansea recognized equivalent. Details on the Swansea University English Language entry policy can be found here.
- This scholarship is open to candidates of any nationality.
- UKRI iCASE studentships are available to home and international students. Up to 30% of the cohort can comprise international students, once the limit has been reached, it is unable to make offers to international students.
- Please note that the program requires some applicants to hold ATAS clearance, further details on ATAS scheme eligibility are available on the UK Government website.
