Swansea University is offering a Fully Funded Ph.D. Scholarship in the field of Civil Engineering in the UK. The topic of this scholarship is about Automatic Intelligent Detection of Cracks in Concrete Slabs of High-Speed Rail Using Deep Learning (RS330). Deep learning methods have emerged as a powerful tool for automatically and intelligently detecting cracks in railway concrete slabs. However, you may face some problems such as low calculation accuracy and high cost. To solve this problem, this project aims to propose a new deep-learning model for automatic crack recognition in railroad concrete slabs with high computational efficiency and low cost. This opportunity will start on the 1st of October 2023.

Eligibility criteria
- You must hold a 2.1 level undergraduate degree (or non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University) in Engineering or a similar discipline.
- You must meet the English language requirements for the scholarship: an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (with at least 5.5 in each individual component of the exam) or the Swansea equivalent. You can find details of Swansea University's entrance English language test policy here.
- This scholarship will be offered to eligible applicants paying tuition fees at the UK rate only, as specified by UK regulations due to funding restrictions for the scholarship.
