Fully-Funded Volunteer Opportunity for Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Hearing Youngsters from European Youth Portal in Greece

European Youth Portal is accepting applications for InClude Me via Signs volunteer in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Duration:

A total of 65 week(s) during the period 01/10/2022 to 31/12/2023. 

Training during the activity: Volunteers will be trained via methods of nonformal education up to the social economy principles,how works a social business where employees are youngsters with disabilities,the use of tools to promote social inclusion and cohesion in our society. Volunteers will have daily collaboration with deaf and hard-of-hearing youngsters working in the cooperative coffee bar "Epomeni Stasi" and they will organize activities such as repair-cafe space, yoga classes, cultural events, graffiti, social dinner, and other events up to the topics of social economy and responsibility, eating healthy and local.

This is a very special project for the youngsters as deaf and hard of hearing and hearing youngsters that know sign language or are willing to learn. It is not obligatory for hearing participants to know before the sign language. Also, youngsters from the community are welcome and refugees too that willing to join the project. Volunteers should be highly motivated to collaborate with youngsters with a disability, to be open-minded, and accept multiculturalism too. This project is based on the principles of solidarity and social economy and volunteers should be aware of these topics.

Benefits:

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements: The volunteer will have to share the room with one more volunteer in a shared flat with a common kitchen and bathroom. The flat is full of equipment with all the necessary items to cook, wash, iron, and clean the flat too. The flat is around 10 minutes by bike from the Cooperative and we will provide a bike to each volunteer for their daily transport. The cost of the accommodation for the flat for the volunteers will be covered by the organization. Plus that each volunteer will get 150 euros to buy their own food and 150 euros as pocket money per month.

Activity description:

The cooperative "Epomeni Stasi" is a social local business coffee bar where youngsters with disabilities have the opportunity to enter into the labor market in a safe and not such competitive environment. We create a colorful and warm cafe bar in the city center where youngsters, citizens, and tourists have the opportunity to order via "signs" and have an experience of learning and using the greek sign language. We support local market products and a healthy lifestyle via responsible consumption. We promote solidarity, inclusion, and multiculturalism. Many cultural events happening in our cafe bar that are accessible for mixed groups of youngsters such as deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing too. Many artists from different backgrounds present their work in our place and new initiatives are welcome up to the topics of solidarity and inclusion.
