The Berliner Theatertreffen is pleased to announce that the registration is open for the International Forum, an 18-day scholarship program in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and and the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia that promotes young artists from all parts of the world. The International Forum will take place between 10 to 28 May 2023.
The International Forum’s programme is based on five elements:
- Attending performances and other formats of the 2023.
- An exclusive programme of performing arts practice consisting of workshops held by experienced artists, researchers and experts, presentations given by the fellows and task groups working on a range of different issues of content and aesthetics.
- A programme of performing arts theory consisting of an exchange of ideas with international theatre makers and external experts within the context of discursive events organised by Theatertreffen (presentations, reflection rounds, artist talks).
- Excursions exploring Berlin’s cultural scene, with opportunities to visit museums and other venues and see performances at various theatres in Berlin.
- Networking programmes which will promote international connections, both between the artists and with cultural institutions.

- Tickets to Theatertreffen events travel expenses (full coverage / partial coverage / no coverage – depending on country of origin, most economic travel option).
- Expenses for travel within Berlin on public transport.
- Hotel accommodation including breakfast (excluding fellows who are residents in Berlin).
- Per diem (according to the performance agreement, this depends on the country of origin and does not apply to fellows who are residents in Berlin)
Eligibility criteria
- Aimed at theatre professionals from all fields.
- Have several years of independent professional experience.
- Be available to participate over the entire period (10 to 28 May 2023).
- Be able to understand and communicate in English – even if not fluent – as English will be the common working language and a large part of the events will be held in English.
More about the Festival:
The Berliner Theatertreffen is a two-week long theatre festival occurring yearly in May in Berlin, Germany. It is a product of the Berliner Festspiele corporation, funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation of Germany. Every year, the festival Theatertreffen brings remarkable productions from the German-language region as well as works by emerging artists from across the world to Berlin.
