Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS) offers scholarships for international students and doctoral candidates who wish to study or conduct research in Germany, as part of Germany’s StipendiumPlus talent support programs.
The scholarship targets students with outstanding academic performance, social or voluntary engagement, and an interest in democratic values and civic participation. The foundation is also one of 13 German organizations officially recognized for supporting outstanding students and researchers financially, academically, and personally.
Benefits
- Monthly financial support for students, including EUR 300 as a study costs allowance.
- Possibility of receiving additional living support of up to EUR 812 per month, depending on the financial situation of the student and their family.
- Additional support for health insurance and long-term care insurance according to the applicable conditions.
- Funding for doctoral candidates of EUR 1,650 per month, in addition to EUR 100 as a research costs allowance.
- Possibility of receiving family allowances or child support depending on the individual situation.
- The scholarship does not need to be repaid after completing the studies.
- Non-financial support, including mentoring, seminars, training, skills development, and networking with a wide network of students and alumni.
- The scholarship duration for international students may range from 12 to 36 months, depending on the program and academic requirements.
Eligibility criteria
To apply for the Hanns Seidel Foundation scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Have good or outstanding academic performance.
- Demonstrate clear social, political, or voluntary engagement.
- Have leadership qualities and an interest in contributing to community service.
- Be accepted to, or plan to study or conduct research at, a German university.
- Meet the language and study program requirements in Germany.
- Commit to participating in the non-financial support activities and programs offered by the foundation.
- For international students, the application or initial nomination may take place through the HSS office in the applicant’s country or region, after which the application is completed through the online portal.
