Opportunity description

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking an International UN Volunteer to serve as a Communications Expert in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. For a 12-month duration (with the possibility of extension), the volunteer will lead the communications strategy for UNFPA’s KOICA and EU-funded Gender-Based Violence (GBV) programs. Papua New Guinea faces significant challenges, including a 63.9% rate of spousal violence against women and high maternal mortality, making effective advocacy and communication crucial.

Please note this is a FREE opportunity with no application or processing fees. As an onsite, full-time International assignment in a Category C hardship duty station, it provides long-term benefits, a living allowance, medical insurance, and a 12-week R&R cycle.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the communications strategy for UNFPA PNG's GBV-funded programs, focusing on digital communication and advocacy.

  • Create visually engaging materials (newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, infographics) for social media, websites, and print.

  • Capture comprehensive, high-quality photo and video coverage of field activities and maintain a high-resolution media archive with consent forms.

  • Produce diverse media formats, including short documentaries, interviews, and animations.

  • Maintain social media platforms and the country office website to enhance UNFPA’s visibility.

  • Support the design of reports, presentations, and donor communication materials in alignment with branding strategies.

Eligibility criteria

  • Must be a national of a country OTHER than Papua New Guinea (Strict International assignment rule).

  • Hold a Master's degree in International Relations, Social Sciences, Communications, or a related area (A Bachelor's degree with relevant experience is accepted).

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in communication and creative design, preferably in a development context.

  • Fluent in English (Required).

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere) and web design software.

  • Excellent photography, video editing, and drafting skills.

  • Ability to live and work in a challenging security environment with a mature level of cultural awareness.
