Opportunity description
International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) in Germany is offering fully-funded PhD Scholarships for international students. IMPRS is seeking skilled and innovative young researchers who are curious by nature and hungry for fresh alternatives under its study mission. Successful applicants have a burning ambition to shape the future of science and the capacity to flourish in an extremely competitive, interdisciplinary setting.
Benefits
- The IMPRS-CellDevoSys guarantees full financial support for the entire duration of your PhD work, i.e, up to 4 years. PhD projects in the IMPRS cannot extend beyond 4 years.
- Financial support is granted via an MPG employment contract for doctoral candidates.
- Health insurance, pension contribution, and other social benefits are included; these contributions are deducted from the gross income. The net take-home pay for PhD students (after taxes and deductions) is in general at least 1,700 Euro per month.
Eligibility criteria
- Hold, or anticipate receiving a Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, (Applied) Mathematics, or Engineering.
- Specifically interested in contributing to the research performed by the research groups in IMPRS.
- Driven by scientific curiosity and the ambition to shape the future of science.
- Prove truly excellent prior academic performance and research experience.
- Thrive in a highly competitive, interdisciplinary, international, and state-of-the-art environment.
- Enthusiastic, cooperative, and collegial.
- Demonstrate a high level of spoken and written English proficiency.
- Candidates previously affiliated with an IMPRS group may join this group for PhD thesis work if the previous affiliation did not exceed 12 months. Internal candidates must demonstrate outstanding performance and the highest potential in order to be invited for interviews. To avoid any favoritism or bias, group leaders associated with an internal candidate will not be involved in judging the candidate’s qualification for admission.
Evaluation of Applications:
Applications will proceed to evaluation immediately after submission. The first evaluation stage checks the applicants’ formal eligibility to join the program. Eligible applications will then be further assessed academically by faculty members, who recommend qualified applications for shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to videoconference interviews with an Admission Committee. Candidates who pass the Admission Committee are eligible for admission to the IMPRS-CellDevoSys, which means that they qualify for interviewing with group leaders one-to-one in order to identify a suitable hosting group for the PhD.
About IMPRS:
The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) “From Molecules to Organisms” provides excellent interdisciplinary training across the disciplines of structural, molecular, cellular and developmental biology as well as bioinformatics, genomics and evolutionary biology. The school’s aim is to endow the next generation of scientists with the knowledge and skills to study complex biological processes, which cannot be adequately understood within the limits of single disciplines, in the context of entire organisms.
