Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences invites young researchers to three grant opportunities that aim to increase their motivation contributing to research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and related industries in developing regions. You should show outstanding performance and research achievements that may lead to future innovation to be commended with the Japan Award.

Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- Must be engaged in research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related industries in developing regions, including the food industry sector and the field of environment.
- Must be under the age of 40 (as of January 1, 2022).
- Must have the nationality of a developing country and/or territory, and belong to a non-Japanese research institute or a non-Japanese university.
- Must be able to attend the awarding ceremony in Japan, 2022.
Please note: The method of holding the awarding ceremony will be decided after taking into consideration the corona virus infection status.

Evaluation Criteria:
You will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Originality.
- Level of research and development.
- Dissemination and practicability.
- Potential for great development and for leading to future technological and methodological innovations.
- Other Considerations such as:
- Consideration may be given to candidates’ relationship with Japan, such as research experiences in Japanese institutes and experiences of joint research with Japanese institutes.
Timeline:
- The due date for submission of application: February 28, 2022.
- Determination of award winners: October 2022.
- Date of Awarding Ceremony: November 2022.
About Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences:
The Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) was established in October 1993, through the reorganization of its predecessor, the Tropical Agriculture Research Center (TARC), in order to include overseas forestry and fisheries research in its mandate. It was again restructured in April 2001 as an Incorporated Administrative Agency, and in April 2015 as a National Research and Development Agency (NRDA) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
