Opportunity description

The United Nations Volunteers Program offers a volunteer opportunity as a Program Assistant in Jordan. You will be responsible for providing programmatic, administrative, and logistical support to the various departments in the UNICEF Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic or ad hoc financial reports related to the country office and donors to support the office in the optimal use of program funds.
  • Support capacity development activities related to program development by preparing training materials and participating in exercises.
  • Assist in organizing internal and external meetings and workshops for the relevant departments.
  • Make necessary adjustments according to department reviews when necessary.
  • Perform transactions related to grants and program-related items including but not limited to recording grant allocations and tracking program grants.
  • Prepare, monitor, and report information on agreed performance indicators to the supervisor and team.
  • Monitor budgets and financial expenditures of the department regularly using established tools.
  • Ensure compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations.
  • Keeping the supervisor informed about the necessary procedures for decision-making and/or follow-up.
  • Any other related duties that may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
  • Achieving UNICEF's strategic goals in areas that need support well.
  • Support the various programs in UNICEF.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:
  • You must be between 18 and 26 years old.
  • You must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in program management, budget, and office tasks.
  • Motivation to contribute to achieving peace, development, and serving others.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and openness to new experiences.
  • Respect for diversity and the ability to adapt to other cultures, environments, and living conditions.
  • It is preferred that you have previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience in other cultures, (ie studies, volunteer work, internships).
  • Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, etc.).
  • Experience in the field of business administration, development programs, and management.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Fluency in the Arabic language.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration, management, arts and political science, or other related field.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with a range of different actors.
  • The high degree of autonomy, personal initiative, and ability to take charge.
  • Willingness to accept broad responsibilities and ability to work independently under established procedures.
  • Ability to manage information objectively, accurately, and confidentially.
  • Resist undue political pressure in decision-making.
  • Stand by decisions that are in the interest of the organization even if they are unpopular.
  • Take immediate action in cases of unprofessional or unethical behavior.

  • Ability to work independently in harsh environments for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel within the area of operations and transfer to other duty stations within the area of operations when necessary.
