Opportunity description
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Tunisia is offering a fully funded volunteer assignment for a Legal/Policy Specialist. The volunteer will support the implementation of regional programmes focused on combating trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants in the MENA region. The United Nations does not charge any application, processing, or testing fees for this opportunity. Selected candidates will receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance of 2,349.66 TND, an entry lump sum, comprehensive health and life insurance, and an exit allowance upon successful completion.
Duties & responsibilities
Conduct research and analysis on national laws and policies related to trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants.
Review domestic legislation against international frameworks and provide practical recommendations.
Prepare concise legal briefs, policy notes, and comparative analyses.
Support the drafting or revising of laws, regulations, and national strategies.
Assist in developing action plans and standard operating procedures for law enforcement and judges.
Design and deliver training programs for criminal justice practitioners.
Facilitate workshops on investigative methods and victim-centered approaches.
Draft analytical reports and contribute to research on human trafficking trends.
Assist in providing inputs for project proposals, budgets, and operational workplans.
Eligibility criteria
Must be a national, legal resident, or hold refugee status in Tunisia.
Must be between 18 and 80 years of age.
Must hold a Master degree in Criminal Law, Criminology, Human Rights, Law, International Relations, or a related field.
Must have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, human rights, or academic research.
Must possess fluent written and spoken communication skills in English, Arabic, and French.
Experience in research on human trafficking and migrant smuggling is highly desirable.
Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
