Competition for Journalists and a Chance to Win €10,000

European Commission is pleased to announce the Lorenzo Natali Media Prize. It is a prize to honor the courage of journalists whose stories shine a light on the common challenges facing the planet and its people. Be more creative, valor and participate in this competition, it rewards excellent reporting on the topics of: 

• inequality
• poverty eradication
• sustainable development
• environment, biodiversity, climate action
• digital
• jobs and employment
• education and skills development
• migration
• healthcare
• peace, democracy, and human rights

If you are among the winners, you will have:

• €10,000.
• The winner of the Best Emerging Journalist category will also be offered a work experience opportunity with a media partner.

You must follow the following criteria:

• Entries must have been published or broadcasted between 10 March 2021 and 9 March 2022.
• The Prize admits submissions in all languages accompanied by a translation in English, French, Spanish, German, or Portuguese.
• For text-based entries, the length limit is 2,300 words.
• Video and audio entries can be up to 15 minutes long.
• Submitted reporting can have one or several authors. 
• The participants must be the authors and holders of the copyright and the moral rights of their work.
• Previous winners 2021 winners cannot compete again for the 2022 Prize but are eligible for subsequent editions.
• The Prize is open to journalists in the following three categories:
• Grand Prize:
• reporting published by a media-based in one of the European Union’s partner countries. 
• Europe Prize:
• published by a media based in the European Union (not including the United Kingdom). 
• Best Emerging Journalist Prize:
• open to journalists under 30 whose reporting was published by a media based in the European Union (not including the United Kingdom) or in one of its partner countries.

Evaluation criteria:

Your works will be evaluated based on the following criteria: 

• Relevance of the reporting to the issues of competition.
• Reporting rigor.
• Added value. 
• Editing & Recording (for video or audio entries).
• Writing for text-based entries (Language, style, structure, clarity of language, etc.).

About the European Commission:

The strategy detect its role in setting priorities and its implementation through EU policy. As well, the Commission is committed to providing users with information in the language they need.
