Opportunity description

Ruhr University Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, offering internationally recognized postgraduate programs in collaboration with global development institutions. Since 2000, it has hosted the MADM program with support from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The MADM is a full-time, 18-month Master’s program taught in English. It targets professionals from around the world with relevant academic and practical backgrounds in development, aiming to qualify them for careers in planning, managing, and evaluating development programs and projects. The program is part of DAAD’s Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS) funding scheme.

Field of Study

Development Management, with a focus on economics, public policy, social sciences, and empirical research methods.

Eligible Specializations

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following (or closely related) fields:

  • Political Science

  • Economics

  • Geography

  • Law

  • Social Sciences

  • Fields related to development program planning and evaluation

Eligibility criteria

  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least "Second Class Upper" or equivalent
  • Minimum two years of professional experience in a development-related field (required for DAAD-EPOS applicants)
  • Proof of English proficiency: TOEFL iBT (minimum 79–80) or IELTS (minimum 6.0)
  • Required documents: motivation letter, detailed CV, academic transcripts, work experience certificates, two letters of recommendation (academic and professional)
  • DAAD-EPOS applicants must submit a current employment certificate (preferably with a reintegration guarantee)
