Macquarie University in Australia is offering the 2022 International Research Training Program scholarship (iRTP) and International Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship Program scholarship (iMQRES) for international students willing to undertake a Master of Research Year 2 or Doctor of Philosophy in 2022.
Benefits
Successful iRTP candidates will receive:
- Tuition fee offset for 3 years maximum
- Stipend (tax exempt, indexed annually, 2021 rate $28,597 p.a.)
- Travel Concession (applied to local transport OPAL Card)
Successful iMQRES candidates will receive:
- Tuition fee offset for 3 years maximum
- Stipend (tax exempt, indexed annually, 2021 rate $28,597 p.a.)
Eligibility criteria
Awards will only be available to applicants meeting the Eligibility and Selection Criteria who:
- are citizens of countries other than Australia/New Zealand, and not Australian Permanent Residents.
- will undertake a Master of Research Year 2 or Doctor of Philosophy in 2022.
- intend to reside in Sydney, Australia during their candidature (subject to border restrictions)
- meet the English Language Requirement for MQ HDR Programs by the application closing date.
- meet the admission criteria for entry into the Master of Research Year 2 (MRes Y2) or PhD, for commencement in 2022.
- have a valid visa allowing you to commence your study in 2022.
- have confirmation of supervision from an eligible Macquarie University researcher (desirable)
Awards will not be available to those who:
- are receiving another equivalent or major award, full scholarship (i.e. tuition and stipend), or salary to undertake the proposed program.
- commenced enrollment in Macquarie University Higher Degree Research program prior to 1 January 2021.
- have already completed a higher degree in research at the same level or at a higher level than the proposed candidature in the same program of study.
- provide false or misleading information to the University. Where there is reason to believe this condition has not been upheld, the University reserves the right to reassess the student’s entitlement to the award.
- are in a progressing BPhil/MRes Yr1 - MRes Yr2 cohort or MRes Yr2 - PhD cohort.
- submit incomplete applications.
Award-holders may:
- be in receipt of minor awards (e.g. tuition only or stipend only scholarship), allowances, or other earnings which are supplementary to an iRTP or iMQRES, or derived from part-time work undertaken within the guidelines set by the relevant scholarship conditions.
- receive stipend top-up funding from industry or other sources to a maximum equivalent of 75% of the basic Research Training Program (RTP) stipend rate ($28,597 p.a. in 2021).
- be in receipt of additional funds for fieldwork, equipment, and other such expenses not covered by the award.
Required Documents:
If you are seeking to establish eligibility for a scholarship you are encouraged to provide full documentation of your achievements to assist in the assessment of your qualifications. Other relevant research qualifications which may be considered include:
- Completion of a research Masters degree or equivalent e.g. a coursework Masters with a substantial research component (you will be asked to provide information on your thesis abstract, length, grade, examination process, and the percentage of research component in the course)
- Published research (preferably in refereed publications: journals, books, book chapters, etc)
- Conference presentations (preferably refereed)
- Highly relevant and substantial work-related research experience.
