Opportunity description

The MS International Federation is offering the McDonald Fellowship, this fellowship enables young researchers from early career multiple sclerosis researchers from low- and middle-income countries to work in a research institution outside of their own country. After finishing the fellowship, participants are expected to return to their own countries at the end of the study period where they will contribute to advancing care and research in MS. 

Benefits

The fellowship consists of a two-year grant, around £30,000 GBP per year, to cover travel and living costs, and an additional contribution of £2,000 GBP per year to the host institution.

Eligibility criteria

  • Be educated to post graduate level (at least MSc, preferably PhD/MD) in an area relevant to multiple sclerosis.
  • Be citizens of a low- or middle-income country
  • Focus their research in an area relevant to MS
  • You must also be in one of the following situations:
  1. Working or studying in a low- or middle-income country.
  2. Working or studying in another country on a project which started within the six months prior to nomination
  • This is a joint application from the applicant and host. Before nomination, you need to have identified a suitable project and host supervisor at an institution outside of your own country. MSIF is encouraging you to identify a suitable host institute and a supervisor you are willing to work with.
  • Candidates are expected to return to their own countries at the end of the study period where they will contribute to advancing care and research in MS.

Required Documents:

  • Nomination Form to be filled out and sent by your supervisor
  • Statement of purpose (no more than a page)
  • A signed letter from your current supervisor including his email address
  • CV
  • Two letters of references by former employers
  • Project proposal (no more than four A4 pages).
  • A summary of your project using simple language (no more than eight lines of text)
  • A letter of acceptance from your host institution
  • A description of your future plans (no more than a A4 page)
