Opportunity description
Moth Magazine announces its annual online competition for unpublished prose or poetry writing. The competition targets all writers over the age of 16, regardless of their specialization or nationality.
Benefits
- The first-place winner will receive €1,000 plus a week at the Circle of Misse in France.
- The second-place winner will receive 500 euros.
- The third-place winner will receive 250 euros.
Eligibility criteria
- The author's name must not appear on the same page of the work.
- It is highly recommended that you purchase a copy of The Moth magazine.
- Posted entries must be written in English, with each entry sent on a separate sheet of paper.
- Entries will not be returned, so be sure to keep a copy of your work.
- No edits can be made after you submit your work, and you cannot get a refund for the entry fee.
- All applicants over the age of 16 can apply for this opportunity.
- Entries must be entirely the work of the entrant and must not have been self-published, online, or broadcast before.
- You can enter as many poems, poetry, or prose as you want.
- The word limit for your entry is 4,000 words.
- Registration fees can be paid by check (EUR/GBP/USD), credit/debit card via PayPal (to enquiry@themothmagazine.com), or by money order (Ireland only).
- The participation fee is 15 EUR per entry.
- Checks shall be payable to "The Moth Magazine Ltd." With the sender's name and address placed on the back of the check.
- Only postal orders from Ireland can be accepted.
- Attach a stamped postcard marked “ACKNOWLEDGMENT” if you require acknowledgment of receipt of your postal entry (include an international response slip if you are an out-of-state participant).
- Online entries are confirmed with your PayPal payment email receipt.
- You will still retain your copyright, but The Moth will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning entries in the Winter Edition of the magazine and any other related promotional materials.
- Court Kathleen Jamie's decision is final and no individual correspondence with her regarding the result will be accepted.
- Prize winners will be notified in writing by November 15, 2023.
- Winning entries will be published in the Irish Times online.
