Opportunity description
Moth magazine announces its online fiction writing competition, which will give its winners the opportunity to win 3,000 euros. Anyone from anywhere in the world, as long as their story is original and previously unpublished, can apply for this competition.
Benefits
- The first place winner will receive 3,000 euros.
- The second place winner will receive the opportunity to attend Circle of Misse Week with all travel expenses covered for the week.
- The third place winner will receive €1,000.
Eligibility criteria
- The author's name must not appear on the story page.
- It is recommended that you purchase a copy of The Moth magazine.
- Entries must be printed in English.
- Entries will not be returned after the contest, so be sure to keep a copy.
- No amendments or refund for the registration fees can be made after submitting your work.
- Anyone over the age of 16 can participate in this competition.
- Entries must be entirely the participant's own work and must not have been previously published anywhere.
- Works translated into English may be submitted from any other language, as long as the translator has permission from the author, and the author and translator agree to share the financial prize.
- You can share as many stories as you like.
- The number of words of the participating work must not exceed 3,000 words.
- You can pay the application fee by check (EUR/GBP/USD), by credit/debit cards via PayPal (to enquiries@themothmagazine.com) or by postal orders (available for Ireland only).
- The registration fee is 15 euros per story.
- Checks and postal orders should be made payable to “The Moth Magazine Ltd.”, with the sender’s name and address on the reverse.
- Registration fees can be paid by post in cash (either US dollars, British pounds or Euros at the current exchange rate).
- Enclose a stamped, addressable postcard marked “ACKNOWLEDGMENT” if you require acknowledgment of receipt of your work in the mail (include an international reply cost if you are participating from abroad).
- Online entries are confirmed by your payment receipt to PayPal via email.
- You will still retain copyright to your entered work, but The Moth will have the right to publish the winning stories in the Irish Times and any related promotional material.
- The prize winner will be notified in writing by mid-August 2024.
- The winning story will be published in the Irish Times' Summer Fiction series, while the second and third prize winning stories will be published in the magazine.
- Your participation in the Contest constitutes your acceptance of all Contest Rules.
- Failure to comply with admission requirements will result in disqualification of your participating work.
