Opportunity description

The United Nations Volunteers Organization is offering an online volunteer opportunity to provide counseling services to children who are survivors of the earthquake. The duration of this opportunity is 6 weeks and one volunteer will be accepted for this assignment. Volunteers must be in good health and have sufficient time to volunteer for 1-5 hours per week. With this opportunity, OCHA hopes to provide more staff counseling services. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to deliver a group counseling session to improve attendees' knowledge on ways to reduce traumatic stress in children affected by the earthquake and the means to better support their quality of life and aid operations.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Support of online volunteers to provide psychosocial support to the dependents of the staff members in OCHA.
  • Psychosocial support to any dependent affected by an earthquake requires knowledge of how to communicate with the earthquake-affected children and assistance in responding to the families.
  • Perform group sessions in the case of children post trauma to the dependents of OCHA staff members experiencing difficulty coping and/or presenting mental-health-related symptoms or syndromes for the children.

Eligibility criteria


You must have:

  • Experience in working in the context of delivering group psychological support.
  • Experience and background in Children's Psychology (especially on natural disasters trauma is an asset).
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • Fluent in Arabic.
