Opportunity description
The United Nations Volunteers program offers an online volunteer opportunity in the field of reviewing recent developments in the epigenetics of aging mechanisms. You will be responsible for supporting the research and innovation process in the field of epigenetic clocks and their relationship to biological aging, disease risks, and environmental factors. You will also develop and validate epigenetic biomarkers to measure and predict aging outcomes, in addition to enhancing the process of collaboration and knowledge exchange between stakeholders and experts in the field of epigenetic clocks and aging. You will also be responsible for raising awareness and advocating for the use of epigenetic clocks as tools to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 3 (good health and well-being) and Goal 10 (reduced inequality).
Duties & responsibilities
This opportunity aims to answer some of the following research questions:
- How do the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and aging mechanisms interact and influence each other?
- How can the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging be measured, validated, and standardized?
- How can the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging be used to monitor, prevent, diagnose, treat, or reverse age-related diseases and conditions?
- How can the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging be used to promote health and well-being for all people, especially vulnerable and marginalized groups?
- How can the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging be integrated into policies and practices aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 3 (good health and well-being) and Goal 10 (reduced inequality)?
- You will also be responsible for:
- Conduct a systematic review and analysis of research works related to the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging.
- Review new developments and tools to measure and analyze the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging.
- Conduct a cross-sectional and longitudinal study of a representative sample of the global population to examine associations and causal relationships between the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, mechanisms of aging, and related health outcomes.
- Develop and evaluate interventions and strategies that target the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging to improve health and well-being.
- Write a nearly ten-page review about the epigenetic clock and mechanisms of aging.
- Investigate the role of the epigenetic clock, epigenetic biomarkers, and mechanisms of aging in human health and disease.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Research experience or certification in the field of cell biology.
- Expertise in epigenetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, and aging research.
- Experience in conducting systematic reviews, analyses, and clinical trials.
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
- Knowledge of sustainable development goals, indicators, and targets.
- Communication skills.
- Working knowledge of English.
