Opportunity description
The United Nations Volunteers program offers an online volunteer opportunity to support the design process of stone benches for nature reserves in Lebanon. The “Strengthening the Capacity of Natural Reserves – STEP4Nature” project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) aims to preserve natural resources in Lebanon and strengthen the capabilities of the Ministry of Environment to plan and sustainably manage protected areas and nature reserves. The project will contribute in particular to the promotion and improvement of nature reserves in Lebanon from an institutional, social, economic, and technical perspective. The project is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foundation for International Cooperation of the Italian Republic through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in coordination with the Lebanese Ministry of Environment. The initial assessment conducted in various nature reserves in Lebanon showed that the majority of these reserves either contain limited rest areas equipped with wooden benches, which require constant maintenance or completely lack any rest areas or benches. In response, the project proposes the introduction of low-maintenance, long-lasting benches that blend naturally with the environment of Lebanon's nature reserves. This initiative aims to enhance the overall experience of visitors by providing comfortable and permanent rest areas along the reserves’ trails.
Duties & responsibilities
The program is looking for one online volunteer to assist the STEP4Nature Project Administrator in producing 2D and 3D seating plans, elevation design, and AutoCAD drawings for nature reserves in Lebanon. Your responsibilities will include both of the following:
- Collect basic information and data relevant to the project, focusing on the design style, dimensions, and type of material used.
- Create initial drafts based on defined requirements and participate in discussions with the project team to align with dimensional standards.
- Developing the final design of AutoCAD 3D/2D according to the agreed-upon requirements.
- This volunteer opportunity will provide a unique opportunity to network with the STEP4Nature project team at UNDP, which will give the volunteer an insight into how architecture/interior design can contribute to proposing sustainable and naturally integrated infrastructures within nature reserves.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Professional experience in architecture or interior design, with a previous background in outdoor furniture or seating design.
- Strong knowledge of interior design applications.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Degree in architecture, interior design, or any other related field.
- Good level of English.
