The United Nations Volunteers Foundation is offering an online volunteer opportunity to support online counseling services provided by OCHA staff. Through this opportunity, the office hopes to provide more counseling services to individuals who are assisted by employees and their families. The selected candidates will have the opportunity to provide counseling services to about 15 individuals, to help them deal with emergencies in Sudan, and improve their psychological health and life quality.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Assess clients' psychosocial needs and provide counseling support regarding coping strategies and building resilience.
- Referring cases and directing them to a psychotherapist, in cases where psychotherapy is required.
- Volunteers will be expected to make time for a minimum of 14 counseling sessions per week. Sessions range in length from 30 minutes to 45 minutes.
- Assess the psychosocial need of individuals.
- Providing first aid and necessary psychological counseling.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology or any related field.
- Knowledge of working within the context of providing psychosocial support and counseling.
- Experience and background in counseling (particularly for clients in emergency and traumatic events).
- Fluency in the Sudanese language.
- Working knowledge of English.
