Opportunity description
The United Nations Volunteers program offers an online volunteer opportunity to help design nature reserve in Lebanon. The UNDP “Strengthening the Capacity of Natural Reserves – STEP4Nature” project aims to preserve Lebanon’s natural capital and strengthen the Ministry of Environment’s capabilities to plan and sustainably manage protected areas and nature reserves. The project will contribute in particular to the promotion and improvement of nature reserves in Lebanon from an institutional, social, economic and technical perspective. The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in coordination with the Lebanese Ministry of Environment. An evaluation of sustainable solid waste management within nature reserves in Lebanon revealed that most reserves need appropriately sized waste bins. To meet this need, the project recommends the installation of durable, low-maintenance bins designed to integrate seamlessly into the natural environment surrounding Lebanon's nature reserves. The aim of this initiative is to introduce sustainable solid waste management structures that will not only improve the visitor experience, but also reduce The impact of waste on wildlife in natural reserves.
Duties & responsibilities
This opportunity is looking for one (1) online volunteer to assist the STEP4Nature Project with:
- Producing 2D and 3D box plans, elevation designs and AutoCAD drawings for nature reserves in Lebanon.
- Collect relevant basic information and data from the project, focusing on design style, dimensions and material type.
- Create initial drafts of blueprints based on specific requirements from the project.
- Participate in discussions with the project team to agree on dimensional standards.
- Developing the final design of AutoCAD 3D/2D according to the agreed upon requirements.
- This volunteer opportunity will provide a unique opportunity to network with the STEP4Nature project team at UNDP. The volunteer will also gain insight into how architecture/interior design can contribute to proposing sustainable and naturally integrated solid waste management infrastructures within nature reserves.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Professional experience in architecture or interior design, with a previous background in designing outdoor furniture or boxes.
- Deep knowledge of interior design applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Degree in architecture, interior design, or any related field.
- Good level of English.
