United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity as an Associate Legal Officer in Kenya.
Duration:
12 months
Duties & responsibilities
- Provision of legal support to UNEP through the Corporate Services Division /Legal Unit
- Serve as Associate Legal Officer supporting the provision of corporate legal advice to UN Programs
- Review and draft legal agreements and amendments
- Support the review of the due diligence process of potential partners, both non-for-profit and for-profit entities
- Support Corporate Services Division’s work on audit processes by oversight bodies
- Support the development and/or revision of legal template instruments and conduct legal research
- Support the Legal Units by the preparation of a compendium of core legal advice delivered by the Legal Unit with a view to ensure consistency for the benefit of UNEP;
- Conduct research on legal issues pertaining to general international law, international organization, privileges and immunities, multilateral environmental agreements.
- Provides independent, accurate, and comprehensive research and notes.
- Contributes to carefully conceived studies, recommendations, as well as well-written legal and other documents (agreements, notes, reports, etc.).
- Contributes to successful negotiation and resolution of problems/issues.
Eligibility criteria
- Age: 27 - 80
- Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment (Kenya).
- Required experience: 3 years of experience in law.
- Area(s) of expertise: Legal affairs
- Languages:
- English, Level: Fluent, Required
- French, Level: Working knowledge, Desirable
- Spanish, Level: Working knowledge, Desirable
- Required education level:
- Master degree or equivalent in law.
- A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
