Balatorium offers a partially funded Balatorium Artist Residency program for Artists in Hungary. BALATORIUM is launching an artist residency program for 2023 for artists working in a variety of fields and artistic media. The aim of the residency program is to bring in artists who would create new works of art in collaboration with researchers, experts, and ecologists active in the Balaton region, based on site- and context-specific research, in line with their own practice and methodology, thus promoting a dialogue between art and science. A BALATORIUM Artist Residency program’s second event will be organized in the spring of 2023, in collaboration with the Balaton Uplands National Park Directorate.
Benefits
The following costs will be covered by the host:
- Accommodation (14 nights).
- Travel expenses: to and from the residency venue on one occasion within Hungary, international travel can be compensated up to a maximum of €350
- Material costs (maximum 300.000 HUF per project - including the cost of the presentation at the Ecological x Cultural Week).
- Artist fee.
- Consultation and mentoring in support of the research and creative process.
- Curatorial and production assistance from the BALATORIUM professional team.
- Presentation of the completed artworks at Ecology Week 2023.
- Documentation of the finished work.
- Presentation of the works to the professional and general public on the BALATORIUM project website and promotion of the project to the press.

Eligibility:
- Any artist/artist duo active in any artistic field or medium, without age restrictions, can apply for this opportunity
Venues:
- The second edition of the residency program is scheduled for the second half of April 2023 (planned dates: 16-30 April), with the Balaton Upland National Park Directorate (BfNP) as both the professional partner and venue provider. The new artworks/productions based on the research carried out in the framework of the residency program will be presented during the BALATORIUM Ecological x Cultural Week in August 2023.

BALATORIUM is a series of cultural events and a science communication project, which is part of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture (VEB2023 ECOC) program. It presents key ecological challenges and processes related to Lake Balaton and its region, along with the key concepts that help to understand them, through unique cultural programs and relevant content that are specifically reflective of the region, widely accessible, and experiential.
