The Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg (iASK) invites applications for individual research fellowships in all disciplines for a period of 4-10 months between 1 October 2021 and 31 July 2022. Preference will be given to applications that focus on interdisciplinary social science and humanities OR to applications in the natural sciences that have social relevance. Research proposals should connect theoretical knowledge with practical analysis that has the potential to result in policy recommendations that serve the public good on the local, national, regional and global levels.
Research Centres and Preferred Topics:-
Preference will be given to topics that directly relate to the research centres and programs of iASK as following:
- Hankiss Centre and Research Archive
- Some possible topics include:
- Sociology of values today.
- Sociology of literature today.
- Symbols of everyday life.
- The history of mentalities in East and Central Europe.
- Political cultures of East and Central European countries before and after 1990: continuities and discontinuities.
- Constructions of meaning in history.
- Existential problems in the modern world.
- The number of available fellowships: up to 2 senior and up to 2 early career researchers for a period of 4-6 months.
- Central Europe and the V4
- Some possible topics include:
- European Enlargement Policy.
- Comparative research on economic and political strategies in the countries of V4 and Central Europe after Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Network research in Central Europe.
- Historical and cultural heritage in Central Europe.
- Social resilience in Central Europe during and after the pandemic.
- The number of available fellowships: up to 2 senior and up to 2 early-career research fellowships for a period of 4-10 months.
Benefits
- Research fellows receive a monthly stipend, which is not subject to income tax. To receive the grant, the recipient must have a bank account with a Hungarian financial institution.
- For the Senior researcher category
- Based on professional experience, the maximum monthly amount of the scholarship on the topics of the Hankiss Centre and Research Archive to be awarded by the Selection Committee is HUF 350,000 ($1172.41).
- Based on professional experience, the maximum monthly amount of the scholarship on the topics of Central Europe and the V4 to be awarded by the Selection Committee is HUF 600,000 ($2009.85).
- For the Early-career researcher category
- Based on professional experience, the maximum monthly amount of the scholarship on the topics of the Hankiss Centre and Research Archive to be awarded by the Selection Committee is HUF 250,000 ($837.44).
- Based on professional experience, the maximum monthly amount of the scholarship on the topics of Central Europe and the V4 to be awarded by the Selection Committee is HUF 350,000 ($1172.41).
- In addition to the stipend, iASK does not provide any other remuneration, reimbursement of expenses or equipment (e.g. laptop).
Eligibility criteria
The scholarship is open to applicants with a university degree (Senior researcher category and Early-career researcher).
- Senior researcher category (Applicants in this category must meet at least one of the following criteria):
- A senior advisor or researcher, lecturer or lecturer (academic doctorate, habilitated associate professor) in any higher education or academic institution (university or research institute), either at home or abroad.
- In exceptional cases, expert applicants without a doctorate, but with demonstrated outstanding academic and professional experience (managerial, artistic, or research experience) may also apply. These applicants are expected to utilize internationally recognized qualifications and expertise and translate it into academic research and post-graduate training. In these cases, the applicants are expected to be:
- a senior officer of an international organization (e.g., UN specialized agencies and autonomous bodies, EU or OECD institutions).
- a senior analyst or consultant for an international think tank; an expert with at least 10 years of international professional experience in a relevant subject.
- someone with outstanding artistic experience.
- An internationally-known expert of social or technological innovation.
- Practitioners with a theoretical interest and at least 10 years of practical experience in international project management, networking and management of academic institutions or non-profit organizations.
- Early-career researcher category (Applicants in this category must meet at least one of the following criteria):
- They must be doctoral students or doctoral candidates (who have completed their coursework) and their research must not be supported by other sources of funding.
- Researchers or professionals holding a PhD/DLA degree.
- Applicants in this category are also expected to have:
- 1-3 years of experience in higher education or research.
- At least 3 publications in national or international journals.
- Exceptionally, applications from experts with at least 5 years of professional experience in the sector relevant to the research will be accepted.
