Opportunity description

UNV offers a volunteer opportunity and announces its need for the efforts of 3 online volunteers for a period of 2 weeks. MDF requires the support of online volunteers who have knowledge in GIS to read GIS forest loss polygons that have been identified to be associated with stream floodplains and relate it to landslides and climate change. The task is part of the project supported by UNDP to survey a IUCN conservation area called Kamiali Wildlife Management Area located in Huon District Morobe Province Papua New Guinea.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • Land use survey, mangrove survey, and shoreline depletion survey as well as other baseline survey.
  • Specifically, you will be assigned with one of the following tasks:
    • Conduct Literature Review on past disasters, landslides, etc.
    • Conduct remote sensing survey.
    • Prepare write-up after getting all the information from the other two online volunteers as well as the project team.
    • Work closely with MDF PNG who will give direction and provide additional information when and where necessary.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • PhD students in the relevant field.
  • Background in Environmental Engineering.
  • Published a scientific journal.
  • Ability to develop a clear abstract and journal introduction.
  • Ability to work 16-20 hours per week.
  • Fluent in the English language.

Please note: The online volunteers will be certified after the completion of this task through the UNV and will be issued a reference by MDF after the completion of the task on hand.
