Opportunity description

Harvard Kennedy School invites Ph.D. Recipients and Junior Faculty to funded fellowships in the field of nuclear security for the 2022–2023 academic year. These fellowships aim to stimulate the development of the next generation of thought leaders in nuclear security by supporting research that will advance policy-relevant understanding of the issues. ​Stanton Nuclear Security Fellows are a joint International Security Program/Project on Managing the Atom research fellows.

Benefits

If you join one of these fellowships, you will have:

  • Ten-month stipends of 62,000 USD to postdoctoral research fellows.
  • If you are one of the junior faculty fellows, you will be awarded on a case-by-case basis and be commensurate with experience. 

Eligibility criteria

You must follow these criteria:

  1. Postdoctoral and junior faculty applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the past five years. 
  2. Junior faculty applicants must hold a tenure-track position. 
  3. All eligible fellowship applicants to the International Security Program and Project on Managing the Atom with a nuclear focus will be considered for the Stanton Nuclear Security Fellowship.
  4. These fellowships are non-deferrable.
  5. Length1 Academic Year (10 Months).
  6. The Stanton Nuclear Security Fellows must be in residence for the duration of their fellowships.
  7. Fellows are expected to produce a written product at the end of the fellowship (e.g. an article, report, or book), may include, but are not limited to:
  • Nuclear terrorism.
  • Nuclear proliferation.
  • Nuclear weapons.
  • Nuclear force posture.
  • Nuclear energy as it relates to nuclear security.

About Harvard Kennedy School:

Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs was founded in 1973 by Paul Doty as the Program for Science and International Affairs (PSIA) within Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Its original goal was to revive serious analysis of nuclear dangers and arms control. In 2021, the Belfer Center was named a “Center of Excellence” by the University of Pennsylvania’s Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program.
