Competition for Innovative Students and a Chance to Win Cash Prizes

Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining is pleased to announce a creation competition; Starpack Students competition. It invites to submit solutions to problems set by brand-leading FMCG companies, design agencies, and manufacturers. An excellent opportunity for students to really challenge conventional thinking and break the rules with creativity and showcase their great ideas and solutions directly to an industry that is looking for rising stars.

You must follow the following criteria:

• The competition is open to:
• students studying a wide range of Higher Education courses.
• those with a graphics emphasis to courses concerned with structural/product design, as well as materials/technology courses.
• The entry fee is £20 per entry.
• The invoice will be received by Friday 8 April 2022 at the very latest and the deadline for payment is Monday 9 May 2022.
•  Entries cannot amend once submitted.
• The 4 A3 development boards upload as a single PDF document.
• The photographic evidence should be uploaded as a single PDF document and should:
• Showcase the front, back, and sides of the model.
• Be shot against a white background and in focus.
• A maximum of 4 images should be uploaded.
• For students who are unable to supply a final model, 3D renderings and drawings are accepted.
• If you are not able to attend the ceremony in person or the ceremony becomes virtual (due to COVID etc.) certificates and trophies will be delivered directly to the university/college listed in the registration.

Timeline:

• Online submission deadline: on or before 1 April 2022.
• Results announced: by end of May 2022.
• Awards ceremony: June 2022 (date to be announced).

Judging Criteria:

You will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Originality.
• Aesthetic qualities of the design.
• Consideration to commercial viability.
• How the pack delivers the benefits to consumers.
• The quality of the portfolio, which must include evidence of research and the development of the design.
• Designs that demonstrate awareness of environmental issues, through the economic use of the material and recyclability.
