Opportunity description
The Goethe-Institut Jordan offers a Product Design Fellowship for two parallel cohorts dedicated to (young and) mid-career designers in Jordan to enhance their expertise as well as resilience and responsiveness in a time of profound challenges. The target of the program is to expand professional activities through resilience-building measures. The program is held from March 27 to August 31, 2022 for a duration of 305 training hours.
About the program:
The Fellowship focuses on the intersections of economic, social, and environmental sustainability in product design and supports each participating designer with a stipend during the weeks with activities, equaling a maximum of 480,00 EUR per month in order to establish equal economic means to learn. With a focus on digital product design and advanced product design.
The Fellowship has two learning phases.
- The first phase is a modular learning program with 12 subjects (2.5 months),
- The second phase offers an internship component with one of Goethe-Institut’s partner organizations (2.5 months). The aim of the second and new phase is to enable learning in a real work environment and provide the participants with an opportunity to learn from and network with sector experts.
Benefits
Each participant will be offered a monthly stipend not exceeding 480 euros per month.
Eligibility criteria
- Designers, design freelancers, and creative entrepreneurs with 2-3+ years of professional experience.
- Designers who have been seriously affected by the pandemic and wish to enhance their skills, or re-skill in order to attain a new source of income.
- Designers who have a (service, digital) background or are interested in it. Self-employed, or unemployed (full-time employees not eligible).
- Designers who are based in Jordan.
- Designers who have the ability to commit for max. 20 h/week within the program to guarantee a stable learning setup.
- Designers who have the ability to fully commit for a period of 5 months between 27th of March until the 31st of august 2022, for an intensive curriculum-based fellowship program.
- Designers who are not benefiting from other parallel Goethe-Institut programs.
- Non-binary and female designers are highly encouraged to apply.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously benefited from Goethe-Institut Jordan’s programs or funding in the field of CCI.
Selection Process:
- Applications that are incomplete, sent after the deadline, or not submitted through the portal will not be assessed. Only complete applications submitted online before the deadline will be taken into consideration. (Candidates might be asked for additional documentation after the reception of the application.)
- An expert jury will evaluate all the complete applications and select the final participants.
About Takween:
Takween is a program of the Goethe-Institute Jordan which aims to support designers and creative entrepreneurs in Jordan through a series of learning opportunities and community-building initiatives. It was initially designed as a collaboration between the Goethe-Institute and platform. Focusing on creative growth, takween offers learning modules, creative mentorship, residencies, a training of trainer’s program, grants and networking opportunities, as well as workspaces and facilities for designers in a creative space in Jabal Amman.
