Opportunity description

Bridport Prize is pleased to announce the launch of a creative writing competition. Unleash your imagination and then let your story marinate in the reader’s mind. Make every one of your words count.

Benefits

If you are among the winners, you will have one of the following prizes:
  • First prize:
    • £1,000
    • The winning story also features in the anthology.
    • Further opportunities where your work needs to have been published. Invitation to take part in awards celebration, and receive feedback from the judges and the professional partners.
    • Finally, you will be championed not only as one of the winners but also as a part of the Bridport Prize family.
  • Second prize:
    • £500
    • Your flash fiction features in the Bridport Prize anthology – your words on the printed page.
    • Pursue other opportunities and recognition of your success.
  • Third prize:
    • £250
    • Your flash fiction is included in the Bridport Prize anthology, which gives you access to other opportunities as you are now published.
    • A chance to join the awards celebration, and hear from the partners.

Eligibility criteria

You should follow the following criteria:
  • The flash fiction prize is open to writers of any nationality writing in English aged 16 and over at the time of the closing date.
  • Entries can be on any subject in any style or form.
  • Entries must be entirely your own work.
  • Entries must not have been published, self-published, published on any website, blog or online forum, broadcast, have won or been placed (2nd, 3rd, runner up etc) in any other competition.
  • If your entry has been long-listed or shortlisted in other competitions, and provided it has not won a prize or been published, it is eligible.
  • You can enter any number of flash fiction stories but please check you are submitting the correct version of your work before uploading as mistakes cannot be rectified later.
  • Your work should be:
    • Written in English, translation into English of your own work is accepted.
    • Maximum of 250 words, no minimum.
    • Add the word count to the top right of the first page. The title is not included in the word count.
    • Use any font in 12pt.
    • Save the file as a Microsoft Word document – .doc or .docx. as well as file types .rtf, .pdf, .txt. will be also accepted (2Mb max.).
    • Do not include your name in the file title or it will be disqualified.
  • Entries submitted posthumously are not eligible.
  • Stories written for children are not recommended.
  • Fees are £11 per flash fiction, and will not be refunded.
