Opportunity description

The Tom Howard/John H. Reid Fiction/Essay Contest, organized by Winning Writers, is an international contest open to people of all ages. Residents of Syria, Iran, North Korea, Crimea, Russia, or Belarus are not eligible to enter (due to US government restrictions).

You may submit stories and essays on any theme, up to 6,000 words each. For this contest, a story is any short work of fiction, and an essay is any short work of nonfiction.

Your work must be in English. You may submit published or unpublished work.

Entry fee: $25 per entry.

Prizes:

  • Story: First Prize, $3,500
  • Essay: First Prize, $3,500
  • 10 Honorable Mentions will receive $500 each (any category)
