Established in 1965, UNDP is the United Nations global development network, operating in nearly 170 countries and territories. Through the High-Integrity Carbon Markets Initiative, UNDP is working with countries and subnational jurisdictions to strengthen readiness and implementation in voluntary and compliance carbon market frameworks. As part of this Initiative, UNDP has launched the High-Integrity Carbon Markets Toolkit, a practical resource for diverse stakeholders involved in carbon markets. There are no application or participation fees for this fully unpaid online volunteer opportunity.
Duties & responsibilities
Support the Climate Strategy and Policy Team under the supervision of the Policy Specialist.
Quality assure translated material to check that the translation from English to Spanish is of high quality and consistent.
Ensure that technical terms and concepts are accurately and consistently translated across all products.
Ensure that spelling, grammar, and acronym use are standardized and consistent across all products.
Compare translated files with English resources for translation checking.
Eligibility criteria
Hold a University degree in translation, interpreting, editing, writing, communications, linguistics, journalism, public relations, media studies, or a social science related field.
Have at least 1 year of experience as a translator, editor, interpreter, writer, or proofreader, preferably within the United Nations system or a similar organization.
Familiarity with climate change issues, especially NDCs and the Paris Agreement, is desirable.
Show familiarity and interest in carbon markets.
Possess outstanding reading, writing, translation, revision, and proofreading skills.
Have an excellent command of MS office applications including Word, Excel, and PDF.
Show research competence in terminology and familiarity with UNTERMS.
Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and sound judgment.
Be fluent in English and a native speaker of Spanish.
