Opportunity description

UNV offers a volunteer opportunityand announces its need for the efforts of one volunteer to work as an electromechanical engineer in Sudan starting from 01/01/2024 for 6 months with the possibility of extension.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • Oversee all repairs conducted by a third-party contractor and plan for backup systems.
  • Prepare and analyze reports related to the performance of generators and solar plants.
  • Assist in the preparation of scope of works and requirements for power supply systems by providing field base input review work orders, through Comindware or any other related reactive maintenance monitoring software used by the Mission.
  • Monitor the performance of the contractor on repair and maintenance of generators and electromechanical installations, through their key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Plan scheduled maintenance on all the installations and equipment related to power supply systems including generators, photovoltaic, electrical systems, distribution network, and electrically powered accommodation equipment.
  • Monitor and ensure, in collaboration with the Supply Chain department adequate stock levels of spare parts, and all related materials, and provide a list of periodic requirements in advance to raise requisitions.
  • Assist in coordinating the update or development of guidelines and policies as appropriate in the area of facility management.
  • Carry out routine inspections of power supply and distribution equipment and infrastructure as recommended by the original equipment manufacturers and/or the Mission.
  • Oversee maintenance and monitoring fuel consumption by power-generating equipment.
  • Assessing reports to ensure that project proposals meet the electrical and/ or power supply requirements of the Mission.
  • Assess and draft technical or assessment reports.
  • Carry out technical evaluation of bids and proposals of electrical projects and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Mission.
  • Familiarize themselves with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
  • Contribute articles or write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications, websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in electrical, Mechanical, or both electromechanical engineering.
  • Recognized and valid license in one of the trades (electrician, power engineering technology, HVAC/R specialist, or similar).
  • 5 years of experience in the field of power generation, power distribution, or power management.
  • Technical training in electrical or mechanical engineering technology or in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Good computer skills: Microsoft applications (Word, Excel & PPP) and Data analytics abilities.
  • Fluency in English is a requirement, and knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
  • Communication, Planning, and organizational skills.
  • Technological awareness and Teamwork skills.
