Opportunity description

UN Volunteers platform is offering an online volunteer opportunity to support review & mapping of organizations working on Women Peace and Security for UN Women ECA RO in Türkiye. National Action Plans for the implementation of UNSCR 1325 are national-level strategy documents that outline a government’s approach and course of action for localizing action on the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. These documents outline objectives and activities that countries take, both on a domestic and international level, to secure the human rights of women and girls in conflict settings; prevent armed conflict and violence, including against women and girls; and ensure the meaningful participation of women in peace and security. By conducting this assignment, the Online Volunteer participates in mapping potential partners for potential programmatic work jointly with UN Women ECA regional office.

Volunteer duration and working hours:

11-15 hours per week / 2 weeks.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Support desk review of global and regional organizations – think tanks, academia, research institutions, civil society organizations and their networks specialized on Women, Peace and Security and having experience on its different aspects like women’s participation in peace and confidence building, gender responsive early warning system, crisis analysis and response, gender equality and demilitarization, gender responsive mediation, etc.
  • Based on findings of the desk review, to map the institutions as potential partners for WPS programmatic work and joint advocacy.
  • Support desk review of best practices and innovative approaches for engagement of women in water diplomacy and climate response to prevent conflicts and cross-border tensions. Based on the review, to prepare a brief with key findings and conclusions.

Eligibility criteria

  • Required experience: Candidates should have strong research, analytical and communications skills as well as excellent written command of English. Background knowledge and working experience Women Peace and Security is desirable. A degree in international relations, data analysis or related fields is considered an asset.
  • Languages: English, Level: Fluent, Required
