Opportunity description

The United Nations Volunteers Program is offering a volunteer opportunity in Yemen as a Humanitarian Officer.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Contribute to the research process and drafting of materials and presentations on the humanitarian situation or emerging issues identified.
  • Support the Chair of the RCT and the ICWG in preparing and facilitating meetings, as well as writing minutes and follow-up points.
  • Organizing and/or participating in working groups, meetings, conferences, training, consultations with agencies and other partners, and other activities with the aim of improving humanitarian response, promoting humanitarian principles, and mainstreaming cross-cutting issues.
  • Help in organizing and/or participating in field missions to build consensus on humanitarian needs and priorities, and improve humanitarian access.
  • Provide the necessary support for organizing and facilitating high-level visits.
  • Perform any other duties requested of you.

Eligibility criteria

  • You must be between 27 and 80 years old.
  • The candidate must be a citizen or legal resident of the country of appointment.
  • 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • It is preferred that you have experience with any United Nations organization.
  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • Excellent drafting and reporting skills.
  • High interpersonal skills; cultural and social sensitivity; The ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a variety of partners, including various community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at various levels.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national staff.
  • General computer knowledge, including the ability to work on various MS Office programs (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; Familiarity with office technology equipment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of English.
  • Proficiency in the Arabic language.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field of political or social sciences, law, international studies, business administration, management, public administration, science, or any other related field.
