UNV offers a volunteer opportunity as a Monitoring Officer in Sudan.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for each of the following, within the scope of your delegated authority and under the supervision of the [Program Monitoring Officer or his designated authorized representative(s):

  • Ensure that the performance of UNICEF-supported programs implemented by the Government and other implementing partners is systematically tracked to ensure that activities are regularly monitored and that expected changes are measured and recorded.
  • Encouraging joint follow-up visits with the participation of relevant partners.
  • Ensure that data for key program and management indicator reports are collected, analyzed and made available to field office management.
  • Compile and provide data to the department and national partners to facilitate the planning process.
  • Evaluate the impact of programs and policies, and report on their progress.
  • Support the sector/sub-sector and other coordination meetings in aspects related to information management, and contribute to strengthening the management of sectoral databases and information systems; Produce and maintain relevant information products, including sector/sub-information reports, databases, and base maps; And supporting the preparation of periodic reports on the sector's activities at the national and state levels when needed.
  • Support the Program Monitoring Officer to ensure technical leadership for UNICEF in obtaining basic information on populations affected by emergencies and disasters and in participation in assessment missions, including inter-agency missions.
  • Any other related tasks that may be required or assigned to you by your supervisor.
  • Promote volunteering by engaging with local communities in the context of your work, by allocating part of your time to some of the following suggested activities:
  • Enhance your knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteering by reading relevant UNV and external publications and actively participating in UNV activities (eg events celebrating International Volunteer Day).
  • Learn about traditional and/or local forms of volunteering in the host country.
  • Contribute articles/writings on field experiences and present them as publications/articles on UNV websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • Help with the UNV Friends Program.
  • Encourage or advise local groups to use the Online Volunteering Platform, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering Service whenever technically feasible.

Eligibility criteria

You must possess:

  • You must be between 27 and 80 years old.
  • You must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
  • Up to 3 years of professional work experience in software monitoring and/or research and data analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written skills. Excellent drafting and reporting skills.
  • High interpersonal skills; cultural and social sensitivity; The ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of different stakeholders, including community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at various levels; Familiarity with C4D tools and approaches.
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English languages.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in social sciences, economics, demography, statistics, or a related technical field; Candidates from the field of Sociology may be considered provided their anthropological background is matched with strong analytical skills.
  • Professionalism at work. Understanding of UNICEF related operations. technical capabilities or knowledge relevant or transferable to UNICEF procedures and rules; Confidentiality, political sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact in dealing with clients; the ability to apply sound judgment; the ability to liaise and coordinate with a range of different actors, particularly those in higher positions; High degree of autonomy, personal initiative and ability to take charge; Willingness to accept significant responsibilities and ability to work independently under established procedures; Ability to manage information objectively, accurately and confidentially.
  • Integrity in your work. Demonstrate the values and ethical standards of the United Nations and UNICEF in your daily activities and behavior while working without regard for your personal gain; Resisting undue political pressure in decision-making; stand by decisions that are in the interest of the organization even if they are very unpopular; Take immediate action in cases of unprofessional or unethical behaviour; Not to abuse power.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to solve problems effectively and manage a high volume of work in an efficient and timely manner. ability to prioritize, plan, coordinate and monitor work; Ability to work under pressure, with staggered deadlines, and handle multiple concurrent projects/activities.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports; the ability to conduct presentations and make and defend recommendations; Ability to relate to and empathize with staff (including national staff), military, volunteers, counterparts and local interlocutors coming from a variety of backgrounds; Ability to impart information and knowledge to a wide range of different target groups.
  • The ability to adapt to, live and work in potentially dangerous and remote conditions; Willingness to travel within the area of operations and transfer to other duty stations within the area of operations when necessary.
