Opportunity description

The United Nations Volunteers program offers a volunteer opportunity in South Sudan in the field of database management. You will be responsible for the effective management of office and database administration tasks related to WAM, under the direct supervision of the WAMU Head or relevant team leader.

Duties & responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
  • Maintain an updated database of weapons and ammunition.
  • Manage a comprehensive database in SharePoint for effective management of all data related to weapons and ammunition.
  • Maintain data collection tools necessary to support weapons and ammunition management.
  • Coordinating with the purchasing and orders department to prepare the shopping cart in Umoja.
  • Coordinate with the Procurement Department to process purchase orders related to operational ammunition expense claims.
  • Follow up on ammunition replenishment with different units.
  • Prepare drafts of briefing notes and projects as directed.
  • Drafts ammunition reports, returns, and summaries as directed.
  • Support the work of the Weapons and Ammunition Advisory Board (WAAB).
  • Assist the WAAB Secretary in conducting the WAAB quarterly meeting.
  • Develop weapons and ammunition management policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in coordination with units related to Weapons and Ammunition Management Unit (WAMU) issues.
  • Perform any other related duties as directed by the WAMU President.

Eligibility criteria

You must have:

  • You must be between 27 and 80 years old.
  • You must be a citizen of any country other than the country of appointment.
  • 5 years of experience in the field of report writing and drafting, database management, and office administration.
  • Proven experience and ability to formulate logistics plans, standard operating procedures, reports, and other documents that support the execution of logistics support operations.
  • Experience in Power BI, Google Looker Studio, or any similar application.
  • Good general computer knowledge, including the ability to work on various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.), Power BI, and email/internet.
  • Preferably have experience in collecting information and data, analyzing and preparing reports on complex and cross-cutting operational issues involving multiple departments.
  • Preferably have experience working with database administration.
  • Preferably have military logistics experience.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • High personal skills.
  • Ability to work comprehensively and collaboratively with a diverse range of partners, including community members, faith-based and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels.
  • Familiarity with communication tools and development methods.
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national staff.
  • Sound security awareness
  • Driving license for cars with manual transmission
  • Good level of English.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or information science.
  • It is preferable to have a master's degree.
  • Creativity skills.
  • Planning and organization skills.
  • Professionalism at work.
