United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in Central African Republic: Environment Officer.
Duration:
8 months (with possibility of extension)
Duties & responsibilities
- Provide environmental support and guidance to clients within the mission
- Implement and collect data for the environmental Action Planning and Performance (eAPP)
- Produce the Environmental Emergency Preparedness Plan with relevant offices;
- Oversees the execution of all environmental actions in the sector of responsibility.
- Conducting regular environmental inspections and risk assessment;
- Maintain a record of environmental issues and actions thereon at the mission
- Investigate complaints or reports of pollution, contamination, health hazards and other environment-related incidents
- Submit periodic reports on environmental issues at the mission, to the Chief Environment Unit
- Recommend to the Chief Environment Unit to undertake such measures as may be required to prevent or mitigate environmental problems
- Promote awareness on environmental issues;
- Conduct environmental training to all mission personnel.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 27 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- 3 years of experience in the environmental management field with a national government/administration, a non-governmental organization, the private sector or an international organization is required.
- Experience in project planning, evaluation.
- Experience in waste management, or environmental auditing is desirable.
- Experience in Energy including renewable energy is desirable.
- Experience in management of data or database is desirable.
Languages:
- English, Level: Working knowledge, Required
- French, Level: Fluent, Required
Required education level:
Bachelor degree or equivalent in environmental management, science, engineering or related area.
