United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in Central African Republic: Generator Technician.
Duration:
3 months
Duties & responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective on diesel power generators.
- Responsible for scheduled routine maintenance, emergency repairs and overhauling of generators (static/mobile)
- Installation of auxiliary fuel systems, such as main tanks, transfer pump and filters.
- Prepare technical reports, drawings and material quantities for operations / maintenance materials and carry out physical check of all received spares.
- Record and report periodically the POL (Petrol Oil and Lubricant) consumption against the power generation to ensure compliance with UN standards.
- Ensure the smooth operation of all generator in accordance with UN rules regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain the records of maintenance, overhaul, and spare parts used for all the mission generators.
- Estimate cost of repairs of generator, and/or determine whether maintenance burdens are economic, cost effective or feasible or not.
- Assist in preparation of acquisition plan, performance reports and budget programs for power generation in the mission.
- Any other task as needed by the head of the unit
Eligibility criteria
Age: 27 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- 5 years of Relevant progressive experience in installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance
- Must possess working knowledge of national and international design standards and other existing regulatory requirements.
- Experience in Training/Capacity Building, mentoring.
- Good PC-based computer skills, including Microsoft applications (in particular Word, Excel, MS Projects, and PowerPoint) and other relevant software packages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to draft reports in concise manner.
Languages:
- English, Level: Fluent, Required
- French, Level: Working knowledge, Desirable
Required education level:
Technical/vocational diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or equivalent.
