United Nations Volunteers programme is offering a volunteer opportunity in South Sudan: Generator Technician.
Duration:
4 months
Duties & responsibilities
- Exercising overall supervision of electrical and electromechanical activities in Engineering Operations, with special attention given to generator related tasks.
- Applying engineering practices in completing portions of larger projects related to the installation or repair of generators, synchronizing panels, solar farms and other related structures and facilities.
- Planning and implementing establishment of a mission wide power monitoring and reporting system.
- Perform any other duties assigned by Chief of Engineering Operations.
- Checking correct requirement of electrical loads for proper sizing of generators.
- Recording and reporting periodically the POL (Petrol Oil and Lubricant) consumption against the generated power in KWH to ensure compliance with UN standard.
- Performing surveys and preparing technical reports, drawings, and material quantities.
- Ensuring the generators are synchronized to minimize the fuel consumption per power plant.
- Ensuring all power houses are complying with UNMISS waste management and environmental policy.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 18 - 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Required experience:
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in installation, repair and troubleshooting of generators, power supply, distribution, and transmission systems.
- Experience in generator power control system, Air Conditioning Systems, Green energy (e.g., solar power generation system), and Generator electrical control system is added advantage.
- Experience in United Nations entities or international organizations is desirable.
- Solid computer skills, including full proficiency in various MS Office application (excel, word, power point) and other IT applications and office technology equipment.
- Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System;
- Sound security awareness.
Languages:
- English, Level: Fluent, Required
Required education level:
- Technical/vocational diploma in Mechanical engineering or related field; Recognized and valid license to repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and install generators and electrical power supply systems is desirable.
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage.
