Opportunity description
The United Nations Volunteers Program is offering a volunteer opportunity as a Facilities Management Assistant in South Sudan. This opportunity is located in the Accommodation Management Unit and is supervised by the Field Administrative Officer in the Bor field office of the United Nations in South Sudan. Port Jonglei State is classified as a Category E hard labor and non-family work center. Your main role will be to effectively support and implement operations and provide facilities management services in the field office.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Support the Field Administrative Officer (FAO) by working with the various relevant departments to build the facilities management capacity of UNMISS while ensuring compliance with safety and security rules and regulations.
- Assisting the Food and Agriculture Organization by submitting proposals on allocating offices/accommodations to UN agencies in the UNMISS camp.
- Ensure the submission of housing occupancy reports on a weekly/monthly basis.
- Arranging repairs and maintenance of facilities.
- Ensure that all supply items related to GSS are in stock and available to customers.
- Oversee and ensure that the distribution of services and equipment is done in an accessible and follow-up manner.
- Ensure that the services provided promote occupational hygiene and safety for all staff and camp residents.
- Contribute to the analysis of the situation of the camp and the needs of staff and resources through regular visits to the different sites in the camp.
- Inventory of equipment in facilities management unit and care units.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Field Administrative Officer (FAO)
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Be between 27 and 80 years old.
- You must be a national of any country other than the country of appointment.
- 5 years of experience in maintaining and managing facilities, camps and complexes.
- The minimum years of experience required can be shortened to 3 years for holders of a relevant master's degree.
- Preferably experience in international operations in a post-conflict environment.
- High level of computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and database software.
- Ability to carry out instructions given in written, verbal or graphic form.
- The ability to deal with problems involving many variables.
- A desire or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, and volunteer work as a mechanism for lasting development.
- Driving license to drive cars with manual transmission.
- Proficiency in English.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in management, facilities management or engineering.
- Adaptability, flexibility and creativity at work.
- Judgment and decision making skills.
- Planning and organizing skills.
- Professionalism at work and self-management skills.
