Water Media Artist Contest and $5,800 Prizes from Artist Network

Artist Network invites water media artists around the world to participate in its 14th annual competition and exhibition. Award-winners and honorable mentions will be published in the Spring 2023 issue of Watercolor Artist.

Total retail value of all prizes is $5800

• The Best of Show Winner will receive a $2,500 cash award.
• The Second Place Winner will receive a $1,250 cash award.
• The Third Place Winner will receive a $750 cash award.
• Five (5) Honorable Mentions will receive a $100 gift card redeemable at ArtistsNetwork.com
• Top award-winners will receive feature articles in the Spring 2023 issue of Watercolor Artist. All award-winning and honorable-mention-winning paintings will be published in the issue, receive a free Artists Network Membership for 1 year ($99.99 value), and a digital award-winner badge.

• Entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older and of the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence. 
• Employees of Sponsor, their parents, affiliates, and divisions, their immediate families are not eligible to participate in the Contest.
• Entries must be created primarily with water-based media (watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache or egg tempera) on a surface created for watermedia (paper; illustration board; paper-mounted board; watercolor canvas; or clay-coated surfaces).
• Mixed-media entries are accepted, but watermedia must be the dominant element.
• All works must be original. “Original” means that the work must be from the hand of a single artist; pieces that originate from a workshop or a class under the direction of a teacher are not eligible.
• Works previously published at the time of submission to this contest in a national publication or receiving an award at a national-level exhibition are not eligible.

Judging Criteria:

Judging will be done by the editors of Watercolor Artist. All eligible entries will be judged in two rounds using the following criteria:

• Artistic technique.
• Handling of medium.
• Design and creative elements.
• Overall impression/impact.
