ESCWA announces the events of the Consultative Meeting on Technical e-Accessibility Guidelines with a Focus on Older Persons, which will be a one-day hybrid event, held on 26 February 2024 in Amman, Jordan. It aims to offer guidance on the design of accessible digital products for older persons, promote equal access, encourage innovation, improve quality of life, and deliver on the inclusion and participation of older persons in all aspects of daily life. The meeting will serve as a peer review for the developed technical guidelines and their ability to serve as a template to steer similar national efforts in the Arab region.

- A global overview of demographic trends, technology, and e-accessibility among older persons.
- Older persons in the Arab region: demography, needs and the use and development of technology.
- Minimum and maximum technical accessibility guidelines for the elderly.

Eligibility criteria
You should follow the following criteria:
- Participation is open to:
- Officials from ministries and public agencies working in information and communication technology, digital accessibility, social affairs, administrative reform, and organizations for older persons.
- Experts in digital accessibility and older persons from the United Nations, academia, and international and regional organizations.
- Private sector and non-governmental organizations.
- It will be conducted in Arabic and English, with simultaneous interpretation, and sign language.

ESCWA was established in 1973, it is one of five regional commissions under the jurisdiction of the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The role of the Commission is to promote the economic and social development of Western Asia through regional and subregional cooperation and integration. It plays a critical role in promoting a holistic approach to development in their regions and balancing the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development in their member States.
