Opportunity description
The United Nations is offering an internship opportunity within the Office of the Director of the Division of Administration, United Nations Office in Geneva.
Duration and Working Days:
This internship is for an initial period of three months (exact date to be determined and renewable up to a maximum period of six months).
The internship is unpaid and full-time. The Intern will work five (5) days per week under the supervision of the Internal Communication Officer.
Qualified Applicants:
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school program in journalism, communications, media or foreign languages; students of international relations or related fields may also be considered (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program journalism, communications, media or foreign languages; students of international relations or related fields may also be considered (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation;
- Have a demonstrated keen of interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Program are not required to have professional work experience. However, the field of study should be closely related to the type of internship applicants are applying for.
- For this internship, fluency in English and French is required.
- Possessing the following skills:
- Communication.
- Teamwork.
- Planning and Organizing.
Internship Duties:
Under the supervision of the Internal Communication Officer, the intern will:
- Research and prepare internal news stories in different mediums (e.g. text, audio or video) to be published on iSeek, the UN intranet;
- Prepare internal email newsletters;
- Translate communication materials from English into French;
- Assist in the organization of events;
- Assist with filing, archiving and general office administration;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
