Opportunity description
The Wall Street Journal offers an internship opportunity in New York for all students who intend to pursue a career in magazine journalism. The program lasts for ten weeks, interns are treated like full-time staff members and are encouraged to pitch their own stories and projects. There will also be an opportunity to get a full-time job at the Journal, whether immediately or down the road.
Timing:
Summer internships take place over June, July, and August, though start dates can be flexible in certain circumstances.
Benefits:
- Interns are paid $900 per week.
- Covering public transportation fees.
- There is no coverage for accommodation, but the Interns will be assisted in getting the right home.
- All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or disability status.
Core Responsibilities:
- Writing exclusive content for digital platforms.
- Completing story and photography research.
- Contributing to editorial meetings.
- Fact-checking and assisting with social media.
Required Skills:
- The applicant is self-starters who understand the needs of growing audience across platforms and are able to work independently under deadline pressure.
- Dedication to high journalism standards.
- Excellent writing, and organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The applicant should have sharp instincts for feature and lifestyle coverage and interest in photography and design.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and web analytics.
Selection Criteria:
The selection process is based primarily on demonstrated interest in WSJ as well as prior experience in news coverage of magazine topics including, fashion, design, art, architecture, entertainment, technology, philanthropy and more.
