Opportunity description

Google is offering an internship opportunity in the summer of 2020 for security engineers. Google's Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. Google is an engineering company that hires people with a broad set of technical skills who are ready to address some of technology's greatest challenges and make an impact on millions, if not billions, of users.

About the Internship:

  • As a Security Engineer Intern, your job is to help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information.
  • Security Engineers work with a broad range of devices, actively monitoring Google's systems for attacks and intrusions.
  • Google focuses on the offensive/testing side and works with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities. Google also builds tools, scripts, and other automation to help its project teams achieve a Google-scale impact.
  • At Google, engineers not only revolutionize search, they routinely work on massive scalability and storage solutions, large-scale applications and entirely new platforms for developers around the world.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security or a related technical field.
  • Coding experience with one or more of the following languages: Python, Go, C++, JavaScript.
  • Experience with attacks and mitigation methods, with experience in two or more of the following: network protocols and secure network design, operating system internals and hardening (e.g. Windows, Linux, OS X, Android), web application and browser security, security assessments and penetration testing, authentication and access control, applied cryptography and security protocols, security monitoring and intrusion detection, incident response and forensics, development of security tools, automation or frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Security or a related technical field.
  • Returning to a degree program after the internship.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Available to work full time for 12-14 weeks during the Summer from May 2020 to August 2020 or June 2020 to September 2020.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge gained in computer science courses to real-world challenges.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution to effectively solve challenges.
  • Develop scripts to automate routine tasks.
  • Create and support a productive and innovative team. This includes working with peers, managers, and teams.
