Opportunity description

Facebook provides an internship opportunity in the field of Integrated Circuit Design research for Ph.D. holders. Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is the world leader in the design of virtual and augmented reality systems. The FRL Silicon Research Team is looking for exceptional interns to help it create the next-generation experiences in virtual and augmented reality. Silicon research and development focuses on exploring new circuit design techniques, architectures, and technologies for future AR products. The company is looking for students interested in optimizing integrated circuits and systems. The internships are up to 16 weeks long and it has various start dates throughout the year.

Eligibility:

You must have:

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ years experience in SoC low-power design and architecture methodologies.
  • 1+ years experience in circuit design and low power techniques using conventional EDA tools.
  • Obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

It's preferred to have:

  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as ISSCC, VLSI Symposium, ESSCIRC, or similar.
  • Engineering experience via internships, work experience, coding competitions, chip tape-outs.
  • Interpersonal skills as a cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for:

  1. Own a research project related to low power integrated circuits and systems.
  2. Work with Silicon research teams to develop new architectures, run internal workloads, and research new design techniques.
  3. Evaluate, prototype, and estimate performance benefits of proposed techniques.
  4. Collaborate with and support other researchers across various disciplines.
  5. Work with cross-functional teams to enable new user experiences in AR/VR via innovative system-level experiments.
  6. Contribute to the execution of the silicon technology / compute roadmap to make advances in performance, power consumption, and form factor.
