Opportunity description

ICRC offers a job opportunity to work as a specialist nurse emergency room. As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, the specialist nurse emergency room (ER) promotes and ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care in the field of their expertise seeking to achieve national/international standards depending on the context. The specialist nurse ER works at building capacity in specific nursing care and infection control in ICRC assisted or independent hospital structures with often limited resources and in challenging environments. 

Eligibility:

You must have: 

  • Degree in nursing (with a minimum of a three-year course).
  • Specialized nursing degree in emergency of minimum one year or demonstrated ability of five years in dedicated ER settings. 
  • Registered nurse with a valid license to practice in their country of residence. 
  • Minimum two years’ experience post-specialty degree in hospital posting.
  • Be fluent in English and a good command of another ICRC working language (Spanish, French, Russian or Arabic). The company is currently looking urgently for Spanish-speaking nurse specialists.
  • Previous international exposure, ideally in low-resource settings.
  • Good communication skills, capacity to manage and work within a multicultural & multidisciplinary team.
  • Open-minded to cultural diversity, positive, flexible and able to adapt to harsh living conditions and/or unstable security environment.
  • In line with the principle of neutrality, the ICRC does not assign personnel to a country of which they are nationals.
  • Be in a good health and will have to do a medical check-up prior to departure.
  • Possess a driving licence (for manual transmission vehicles).
  • Be prepared to accept unaccompanied postings (i.e. no spouse, partner, children or dependents) for at least the first 24 months.

It's preferred to have: 

  • Significant experience(s) in acute care departments such as ER, ICU and recovery room and in treating trauma cases.
  • Experience in mass casualty management, routine triage and related training.
  • Previous experience(s) within the red cross & red crescent movement.

Your Responsibilities:

You will be responsible of:  

  1. Provides high quality specialized care, often in a limited resource setting, to admitted patients, following the ICRC nursing guidelines and international guidelines and in collaboration with other members of the hospital team.
  2. Participates in the delivery of a program of training/coaching to measurably improve the provision of specialized patient care.
  3. Promotes a clean and safe patient environment and ensures that ICRC hygiene standards are regularly measured and maintained (sterilization and infection control and safety regarding the handling of sharps, fire safety, waste management, etc…).
  4. Ensures accurate data collection through the timely completion and filing of all patient/structure related documents.
  5. Participates effectively in the team and medical structures' preparedness & response to emergencies.
  6. Builds a dialogue which demonstrates a strong understanding of the need to cooperate with and support both internal and external counterparts.
  7. Ensures a rational use of resources available and reordering of supplies as well as appropriate use and maintenance of equipment.
  8. May supervise certain resident nursing and hospital support staff.
