Opportunity description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is looking for a talented Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Consultant to join the team and work in New York, USA for 2020. 

Responsibilities:

  • MHPSS needs assessment, regarding client mental health stressors, coping mechanisms, and access to supportive services. Assessment should also interview key IRC stakeholders and staff regarding past and current MHPSS services.
  • A landscape and gap analysis of MHPSS services in NYC that includes descriptive and analytical overview of existing partners working on MHPSS service provision; training and technical assistance needs and gaps; and opportunities for partnership development and funding.
  • Recommendations for IRC’s MHPSS approach in New York, including:
  1. Strategic partnerships to forge in order to expand service delivery and program opportunities.
  2. Opportunities for enhanced or new programming that is prioritized based on high level estimated resources required (effort, time, funding, staffing), and potential impact (high, medium, low) to the IRC mission and clients, availability of funding and fit with potential for IRC to add value
  3. Strategic, operational, financial, and people elements needed for success.
  • Development of tools and resources to implement MHPSS services including:
  1. MHPSS resource guide for staff and client-facing MHPSS resources.
  2. Staff and volunteer training.
  3. Curriculum and instructional material development.
  4. Assessment tools.

Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or other social service field required.
  2. Minimum 3-5 years of progressive and related experience within Mental Health and Psychosocial Support services, including deep knowledge of best practice standards and service landscape in NYC
  3. Knowledge of research study design and data collection specifically in mental health sector
  4. Expert communication skills (written and verbal) with a demonstrated ability to synthesize materials and assessments into key learnings and insights for non-experts, in a cross-cultural environment.
  5. Practical experience in providing thought leadership, analytical thinking, and translating ideas into long and short term organizational strategy.
  6. Pro-active self-starter that is able to develop and complete w work plans independently in a complex, dynamic environment.
  7. Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability preferred in Spanish, French, Arabic, Dari/Farsi and/or Pashto.
