Job Opportunity at Wordvice: Freelance Academic Editor

Wordvice is seeking qualified and experienced editors to join its team of freelance professionals. WordVice is an international editing company specializing in manuscripts bound for academic journals. Woedvice's aim is to preserve an author’s voice and underlying message while revising the more technical and organizational aspects of the writing. To achieve this goal, the company requires outstanding and intuitive editors who can do great work and satisfy the needs of its academic clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Edit and proofread academic papers and other documents for grammar, mechanics, and style issues.
2. Retain original intended meaning while making substantive revisions.
3.  Provide marginal comments explaining some revisions and offering suggestions.
4.  Respond to order notifications promptly and meet order deadlines.
5.  Reply to clients and answer any questions they may have regarding their document.

Basic Qualifications:

1. Native fluency in English.
2. Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate degree program.
3. Knowledge and application of various style guides such as APA, AMA, MLA, and Chicago Manual of Style.
4. Proficiency with MS Word and its “track changes” features.
5. A keen eye for language and style errors in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.  Be independent and self-motivated.
2.  Minimum one year of professional editing experience.
3.  Hold an academic background or professional experience in medicine, engineering, or other biomedical or natural science.
4.  Have an understanding of scientific writing and formatting conventions.
5.  Be passionate about writing and editing.

Conditions:

1.  Freelance, part-time
2.  Pay rate: Negotiable (per-word rate).
