Job Opportunity in Egypt at ADEC: Network Administrator and Technical Support

The Arab Digital Expression Camps (ADEC) in Egypt is looking for a network administrator and technical support to join the team for this year’s summer camp.

Duration:

• Work flexible hours max 8 hours per week to prepare all technical requirements for the camp (April, May and June 2019).
• Attend throughout the camp duration from July 13 to August 5, 2019. Tasks required are:
  • Setting up labs.
  • Implementation.
  • Packing .
  • Evaluation from 13th of July to 5th of August 2019.

We will provide adequate accommodation on the camp-site.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Pre-Camp: 
  1. Attend inspections with the rest of the managerial and logistical team. Assess the camp location’s technical requirements to deploy a proper infrastructure.
  2. Do full assessment of all technical equipment in ADEF’s inventory.
  3. Work closely with logistics officer to supply required hardware for all the camp’s activities (workshops, evening activities, closing ceremony ِetc..)
  4. Work closely with the Program Coordinator to secure an open-source software recipe list that is up to date and compatible with the curricula requirements and test the softwares’ compatibility with our current hardware
  5. Install the necessary Linux Operating System, Open Source software and packages based on curricula, trainers and team members’ requirements
  6. Prepare Live-Boot USB drives with the softwares and Linux OS used during the camp, to be distributed to participants before they leave camp-site
  7. Setup the server that will run the camp system and storage server.
• During Camp:
  1. Supervise the packing and loading of the technical inventory.
  2. Design and implement the network infrastructure on-site (cabling, internet and local connectivity) and configuration of all devices.
  3. Set up all three labs.
  4. Provide on-site support during the camp. Ability and openness to engage with other trainers (Video, Sound and Music, Makers, Game Design and Visual Arts) in solving their technical challenges.
  5. Supervise the camp’s technical inventory, keeping the various distributed equipment in check (what is where and/or with whom).
• After the Camp:
  1. Review the technical inventory and report on the state of the equipment.
  2. Supervise the packing and loading of the technical inventory.
  3. Take part in the camp team evaluation process.

Job Requirements:

1. Familiarity with Open Source operating systems like Ubuntu and CentOS.
2. Experience using bash shell scripting languages is highly desired.
3. Hands-on experience on network topology, protocols, routing protocols, routers, switches…etc.
4. Hands-on experience on network security equipment Firewalls, IPS, Fortigate, HIPS, URL filters, Network Access Control…etc.
5. Experience in Drupal CMS is needed.
6. Experience in MySQL database.

About the Camp: 

The Arab Digital Expression Camps (ADEC) is a two-week summer camp taking place for the past 12 years and gathering annually 66 Arab youth aged 12 to 15 in an adventure of learning and self-expression.

ADEC is a free space for expression and debate; self-exploration and skills development; confidence-building and critical thinking among youth coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds. It offers the participants a chance to explore their capacity and self-expression through exploring open culture and open source digital and artistic tools in a safe environment conducive to expression. The candidate will join our 30-member strong team of talented techies, artists, educators and organizers and youth leaders.
